The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Comrade Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, has been appointed Deputy Director of Youth Mobilisation, South-East Zone, of the PBAT/APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
Chukwu, who is also the Chairman of the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties in Nigeria, will deputise business executive Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, in coordinating youth mobilisation efforts across the South-East in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The appointment places Chukwu in a key zonal position within the campaign council as political parties and support groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general election. Blueprint reports
His responsibilities will centre on youth engagement and mobilisation across the South-East, working with Obi Cubana and other campaign officials to coordinate activities aimed at attracting young people to the president’s re-election campaign.
The appointment is particularly notable given Chukwu’s existing position as APGA National Youth Leader and his leadership of the forum that brings together national youth leaders of political parties in Nigeria.
Chukwu to work with Obi Cubana
In his new role, Chukwu will work under Obi Cubana, who was appointed South-East Zonal Director of Youth Mobilisation in the APC presidential campaign structure.
Obi Cubana, whose real name is Obinna Iyiegbu, is a businessman and public figure whose involvement in the campaign has drawn attention to the use of prominent personalities in political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
The arrangement places Chukwu in a deputy position within the South-East youth mobilisation structure, with the responsibility of supporting the zonal director in coordinating engagement efforts across the region.
Youth mobilisation is an important component of election campaigns, particularly in efforts to connect political organisations with younger voters, community networks and grassroots groups.
The effectiveness of such structures often depends on their ability to build relationships with local stakeholders, communicate campaign messages and sustain engagement beyond major political events.
However, details of the specific programmes Chukwu will coordinate, the structure of his working team and the timetable for planned activities have not been made public in the announcement.
APGA leadership and cross-party youth engagement
Chukwu’s appointment comes against the backdrop of his position as National Youth Leader of APGA, a political party with an established presence in the South-East.
His additional role as Chairman of the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties in Nigeria also places him within a wider network of youth political leadership that cuts across party lines.
The combination of these positions gives the appointment a cross-party dimension, although the announcement does not provide details of any formal arrangement between APGA and the APC in connection with the assignment.
His appointment to the campaign council should therefore be understood within the specific context of his new responsibility for youth mobilisation, rather than as evidence of a change in APGA’s official political position.
The development also highlights how campaign organisations seek to engage political figures who already occupy youth leadership positions and may have established relationships with young people and party structures.
For Chukwu, the assignment creates an opportunity to bring his experience in party youth leadership into a zonal campaign role focused on the 2027 presidential election.
South-East youth mobilisation ahead of 2027
The South-East assignment will be part of the broader effort by the Tinubu campaign to organise support for the president across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The region comprises Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, each with its own political dynamics, party structures and youth constituencies.
Coordinating mobilisation across the five states requires engagement with different communities and political stakeholders, as well as an understanding of the issues that shape young people’s participation in public affairs.
While the announcement does not outline a detailed mobilisation strategy, Chukwu’s position as deputy zonal director places him within the structure responsible for pursuing the campaign’s youth engagement objectives in the region.
The role may involve coordination with relevant campaign officials and local structures, although the precise responsibilities and operational arrangements have not been outlined publicly.
The appointment also comes at a time when political organisations are beginning to strengthen their structures and build relationships ahead of the next general election.
For campaign teams, youth mobilisation involves more than reaching potential voters; it also requires sustained communication, coordination and engagement with people across different communities.
Campaign preparations gather momentum
President Tinubu’s re-election campaign is expected to involve political party structures, support groups and individuals assigned to various mobilisation and outreach responsibilities.
The South-East youth mobilisation directorate is one component of that wider campaign arrangement, with Obi Cubana serving as zonal director and Chukwu as his deputy.
The appointment announcement did not provide further details on when the mobilisation team would begin its activities, the resources available to it or specific targets for the region.
It also did not indicate whether additional appointments would be made to strengthen the South-East structure.
Chukwu’s emergence as deputy director nevertheless adds another political youth leader to the campaign council as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
His performance in the role will ultimately be assessed by the activities undertaken by the mobilisation team and its ability to carry out the responsibilities assigned to the directorate.
