For years, contouring has been the go-to technique for sculpting, defining and reshaping the face. But lately, makeup is taking a softer turn and blush is stealing the spotlight.

The “more blush, less contour” approach is less about carving out cheekbones and more about bringing warmth, colour and life back to the complexion. When consulting with clients, I always say that blush is one of the most flattering steps in a makeup routine. A soft hint of colour instantly brings warmth and vitality to the complexion and helps the skin appear fresher and more radiant.
Heavy contour can sometimes emphasize texture or make the face look more angular, while blush creates a softer more youthful-looking dimension. Cream and liquid formulas are particularly great on mature skin because they melt seamlessly into the complexion rather than sitting on top of it.

The great thing about this trend is how easy it is to create: Apply blush across the apples of the cheeks and slightly upward toward the temples for a lifted effect, then add a touch across the bridge of the nose for that naturally sun-kissed, just-back-from-a-walk flush. Cream and liquid formulas work especially well for creating that fresh, seamless finish.
Whether you prefer a barely-there wash of peach or a bold pop of berry, blush can instantly make a makeup look feel more youthful, expressive and alive. It less about creating a perfect chisel and more about enhancing the face with colour and personality.
Here are a few blush shades I’m loving lately:
