Kathmandu, October 16
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced that waste management at Bancharedanda, the valley’s final waste disposal site, will be affected for four days from October 18 to 21 during Dashain.
According to the metropolis, waste management will be disrupted as sanitation workers will take time off to celebrate the major festival.
Sarita Rai, chief of KMC’s Environment Management Department, has urged residents to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste generated during the four-day period and store the two types separately.
“Please manage waste generated at your homes, offices and businesses within your own homes or compounds instead of dumping it indiscriminately on roads and public spaces,” Rai said.
KMC said regular waste management services would continue on days other than the four-day period.
