The suspect, identified as Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County. According to the DCI, detectives from Kamukunji Police Station arrested him along Mfangano Street after acting on intelligence linking him to several reported phone theft incidents.
In a statement, the agency said the MCA had been under investigation over three separate incidents reported in August and September 2026.
Investigators relied on CCTV footage to identify the suspect and link him to the reported incidents, paving the way for his arrest.
Why was the Kitui MCA wanted by detectives?
The DCI disclosed that Musyoka's arrest also brought to light an outstanding warrant in a separate criminal case.
According to the agency, the MCA is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after allegedly failing to attend court following his release on bond by the Makadara Law Courts.
He had previously been charged with an offence of stealing in the separate case.
The DCI did not disclose further details about the earlier charge but confirmed that the suspect was in custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment.
The latest arrest places the elected county representative at the centre of investigations into alleged phone thefts in Nairobi, alongside the outstanding court matter.
What did the DCI say about the arrest?
The investigative agency maintained that individuals suspected of criminal activity would be pursued regardless of their positions in society.
“The DCI reiterates that no one is above the law,” the agency stated, adding that detectives would continue following leads and presenting suspects before the courts to answer to alleged offences.
The arrest comes as investigators continue using intelligence and CCTV footage to pursue suspects linked to reported crimes in the capital.
The DCI urged members of the public to report information that could assist investigations through its toll-free number, 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp number, 0709 570 000.
