The Lagos State Butchers Association has formally announced the emergence and inauguration of its newly elected executive leadership, led by seasoned agribusiness operator Alhaji Ismaila Babalola as Chairman, following a conclusive and peaceful electoral process.
The transition represents a strategic turning point for the Association, pairing grassroots industry experience with organised enterprise. Alhaji Babalola, who also serves as the Founder and sole owner of AfiSuru Enterprises (https://afisuruent.com/) —a recognised enterprise across the state’s meat and agricultural trading value chain—brings private-sector operational discipline to the administration. His team takes office with an explicit commitment to institutional transparency, member welfare, and the modernisation of meat production and distribution across Lagos State.
Chief (Mrs) Dr Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria.

A 7-Point Strategic Vision for Industry Growth
Addressing operational bottlenecks, inflation, and public health demands, the Babalola-led administration unveiled a focused 7-point strategic agenda:
1.
Unity, Reconciliation, and Collective Progress: Bridging divisions across all market units, abattoir branches, and trade leaders through active dialogue, dispute resolution mechanisms, and mutual respect.
2.
Economic Empowerment and Member Welfare: Mitigating volatile operating costs through micro-credit access, cooperative purchasing power, and commercial models informed by private agribusiness best practices.
3.
Transparent Governance and Prudent Administration: Instituting constitutional compliance, regular financial reporting, and participatory decision-making that gives every market chapter a voice.
4.
Food Safety, Veterinary Standards, and Hygiene: Enforcing strict slaughterhouse sanitation, proper meat handling, and hygienic transport standards in alignment with Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and environmental regulations.
5.
Strategic Government and Institutional Relations: Establishing a cooperative working relationship with the Lagos State Government, local government area (LGA) market regulators, veterinary health boards, and security agencies.
6.
Youth Inclusion and Succession Planning: Modernising the trade by training younger butchers in butchery technologies, modern livestock processing, bookkeeping, and trade union ethics.
7.
Infrastructure Modernisation and Advocacy: Lobbying authorities and private investors for improved cold-chain facilities, abattoir water access, clean waste-management channels, and stable market utilities.
Chairman’s Statement: Merging Enterprise with Grassroots Service
In his inaugural address, the Chairman, Alhaji Ismaila Babalola, stated:
“Our emergence as the executive leadership of the Lagos State Butchers Association is a solemn public trust. We accept this mandate with humility, clarity of purpose, and an unyielding commitment to deliver measurable progress for every butcher across this state.
The meat trade is not just our heritage; it is a critical pillar of Lagos State’s food security and public health architecture. Through my journey establishing and operating AfiSuru Enterprises, I have experienced first-hand the daily hardships our members face—from spiralling haulage costs to poor market infrastructure. Our administration will blend practical commercial insight with inclusive trade union leadership to ensure that our butchers prosper and our consumers receive safe, hygienic meat.
The season of internal rancour is over. I call upon every branch leader, market elder, and youth member to unite. Together, we will transform our association into a modern, respected, and commercially viable institution.”
A Call for Cooperation
The executive leadership urges market elders, branch chairpersons, government regulatory bodies, and industry partners to collaborate closely with the new executive committee.
The Association reaffirms its commitment to lawful commerce, environmental cleanliness, and uninterrupted distribution of wholesome meat products to the over 20 million residents of Lagos State.
