The comments came from Soyinka Lempaa, a human rights activist, who did not hold back in his assessment of the former opposition leader and his household.
What did Soyinka Lempaa say about the Odingas?
"No matter how many people are involved, no matter how much resources you spend on deifying Raila Odinga, he died offside, was buried by his enemies, was a very transactional man and his family is very extractive. You can bend some parts of history but you cannot bend the whole of it," Lempaa said.

The remarks quickly drew Winnie's attention, and she fired back with a challenge that was short and direct.
"Let's have a public debate. Name the time and the place," she responded, leaving the ball firmly in Lempaa's court.
The exchange lit up social media, with Kenyans offering a range of opinions on both the activist's words and Winnie's response.
User acy_mathenge appeared to side with Lempaa, writing:
"On point. Very transactional, especially the G-to-G oil deal."
Iddygalgalo added:
"When they hear this, they will start insults and it is true."
pmaina_tafsiri echoed similar sentiments:
"As much as they hate to hear it, that's what it is."
Not everyone directed their commentary at the Odinga family, however.
User Nganiengatch turned the focus on the activist himself, asking:
"What has this one achieved in terms of making any difference in Kenya?"
Meanwhile, moo.je kept it brief:
"Somebody needed to say this."
Whether Lempaa will accept Winnie's invitation to a public debate remains to be seen.
