Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has escaped serious injury after being involved in a frightening car accident in Turkey that left his vehicle badly damaged.
According to the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old, who is currently on loan at Trabzonspor, was involved in a multi-car collision near Trabzon.
The report revealed that another vehicle crashed into the back of his £100,000 Hongqi E-HS9 at high speed, forcing his car into another vehicle ahead.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene on Yomra Road, where debris was scattered across the road. Images from the incident showed damage to the right side of Onana’s car.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper was taken to hospital for medical checks but was later discharged.
He was reportedly travelling with family members, but there’s no confirmation that his wife and son were inside the vehicle when the accident happened.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan confirmed the incident and offered an update on the goalkeeper’s condition.
“Andre Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening,” he said. “There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
The accident happened just hours after Onana helped Trabzonspor secure a 2-0 victory over Hearts of Midlothian in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
He kept a clean sheet in the match, making it back-to-back shutouts.
It was also his fourth clean sheet for the Turkish side across his last five games, showing signs of improvement after a difficult spell at United.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan for £43 million in 2023 but struggled to live up to expectations.
He made a plethora of costly mistakes that effectively ended his United career. He was ultimately shipped off to Turkey and replaced by Senne Lammens.
Onana has made 102 appearances for United and kept just 24 clean sheets. His contract expires at the end of next season, although the Red Devils will likely cash in on the Cameroonian next summer.
