Norwegian open-hatch specialist G2 Ocean has appointed SK Lim as its next chief executive, with incumbent Arthur English moving to chair the company’s board and take over as CEO of majority shareholder Gearbulk.
The changes take effect on January 1, 2027, as the group adjusts its leadership following a change in Gearbulk’s ownership, which is now split between Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) with 72% and Marubeni Corporation with 28%.
Lim has been managing director for G2 Ocean’s Pacific operations since March 2020, overseeing a region that has become increasingly important to the company’s global business. He succeeds English, who has led G2 Ocean since January 2020.
English, who spent more than two decades at Gearbulk before joining G2 Ocean as chief commercial officer in 2017, will also join Gearbulk’s board when he takes over as its CEO.
Kristian Jebsen will step down as executive chair of G2 Ocean and as chair and CEO of Gearbulk.
“I have strong confidence in SK as the right person to lead G2 Ocean forward,” said English, citing his work building the company’s Pacific business and customer relationships.
Founded in 2017 by Gearbulk and Grieg Maritime Group, G2 Ocean operates more than 120 vessels across over 30 trade routes, carrying pulp, paper, forest products, aluminium, steel, industrial minerals and project cargo.
