Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wasn’t a fan of Alberta singer Tate McRae’s inclusion at the 2026 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Grégoire Trudeau, who was previously married to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, questioned the message behind the pop star’s performance in the comments section of Billboard Canada’s Instagram post highlighting McRae’s appearance.
“Really? This is what we need to do now to make a mark as an artist?” Grégoire Trudeau wrote in the comments. “I like her music and she’s talented but I see nothing empowering here; more like falling into the mold of people pleasing.”

Wearing a red garter belt and corset top, the 23-year-old singer performed a medley that included her songs Housewife, Dear God and Sports Car.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month, McRae said Housewife was “kind of about a woman who can’t be contained.”
In a promotional image for the song, McRae poses in a red bikini and sunglasses. “I just wanna make a lot of money/ be my own housewife/ You could be the one I’m calling honey/ Be my sex on the side,” she sings on the track.
Grégoire Trudeau might have been the most notable critic, but her complaint didn’t hit the right note with fans of the singer.
“It’s a lingerie show. If she’s comfortable and confident, who cares,” one person clapped back, with another adding, “She’s a 23-year-old girl … It’s a lingerie show … sounds like jealousy.”

“Sorry, Sophie, this is a bad take,” a third person wrote. “Who are you to say what empowers another woman? Maybe she is empowered. Maybe this IS who she is and she’s not pleasing anyone. You’ve clearly never followed Tate’s career … It just feels like you’re putting another woman down.”

‘People still think politics is like glamorous’
Grégoire Trudeau’s social media remark comes after recent comments surrounding her marriage.
She separated from Trudeau in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The former couple continue to raise their three children together — Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 12 — while the former prime minister has embarked on a new relationship with pop star Katy Perry.
During a chat with Talia Bronfman and Jessica Green, hosts of Canadian podcast Built For This, Grégoire Trudeau reflected on how she tried to keep her ex level headed when people would start “losing it” around them.

“Right away I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, no. This is not going to happen. Look into my eyes right now. We belong to each other. We’re doing this for each other. So, let’s put all the titles and the accolades and the lighting aside and let’s just come back to like we’re walking each other home,’” she explained, according to the National Post.
She also opened up about the pressures of political life.
“People still think politics is like glamorous and it’s champagne and I’m like ‘Oh my goodness, if people only knew the sacrifices that you make in your life.’ Like your time is not yours anymore. Your family is almost not yours anymore,” she explained.
Elsewhere, Grégoire Trudeau said she never saw her “former partner as a prime minister.”
“I knew it was his job, but come on,” she said.
