Former Black Stars assistant coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has called for a structured and sustainable approach to rebuilding Ghana’s senior national team, insisting that greater consistency and a clear development pathway are needed.
Dramani believes the Black Stars need a united team capable of working towards a common objective, with deliberate planning and continuity forming the foundation for long-term progress.
“We need a structured team for now. The team looks scattered, and we need a team, a unit that can bring people together, that can begin to groom the team again,” he said.
“And this is a process, and that is where we are lacking.”
The former Hearts of Oak head coach stressed that rebuilding the national team must go beyond immediate results, arguing that Ghana needs a clear understanding of what it wants to achieve and a consistent strategy to reach those objectives.
“We need to be deliberate, we need to be consistent, we need to be sustainable in terms of how we want what we want. Sometimes we don't, you don't really know what we want. We need to have a clear pathway of what we want,” he added.
Dramani’s comments come at a difficult period for the Black Stars, who suffered consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before surrendering a two-goal lead to suffer a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia, leaving the team without a point from its first two qualifying matches.
The disappointing start prompted the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz and intensified calls for a review of the team’s technical direction and overall preparation.
The Ghana Football Association has since appointed Kim Lars Björkegren to lead an interim technical team for the November international fixture against Somalia, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram serving as assistant coaches and Fatawu Dauda as goalkeeping coach.
The interim arrangement is intended to provide leadership for the upcoming fixture while the search for a permanent head coach continues.
Ghana is now seeking to revive its AFCON qualifying campaign, and now the challenge will be to translate calls for unity, planning and sustainability into a clear and lasting football development strategy.
