Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that an oil tanker caught fire after striking a sea mine while leaving the Strait of Hormuz.
Tasnim News Agency reported early Monday, October 19, that the tanker was traveling along the southern route of the strait, near Oman’s coastline.
According to the report, the IRGC claimed that the tanker had switched off all its positioning and navigation systems.
In recent days, the IRGC has warned that it would target vessels that fail to comply with Iranian regulations.
Meanwhile, tensions between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz have remained high for several months, with commercial vessels occasionally coming under attack.
