It probably goes without saying, if you're thinking of getting the iPhone Duo - you can probably afford it. That's why the heavy outlay of R47,999 for the base model is the best option, but if you opt to take it out on contract - the price rises even steeper.
The absolute cheapest option is R1,699 per month on a Telkom FlexOn6 package over 36 months. That means you will end up paying back R61,164 over the three-year term for the entry-level 256GB iPhone Duo.
In fact, Telkom controls the top four cheapest contract tiers for the iPhone Duo before MTN enters the conversation with a lower-tier offer.
Telkom’s Fourth Package: Best Value Among Initial Options
The best value among those initial options is likely Telkom’s fourth package. For R1,839 per month over 36 months (totalling R66,204 over three years), you can step up to the double-storage 512GB version.
The first entry from an alternative provider is MTN’s offer at R1,849 per month over 36 months for the 256GB model. That brings your overall commitment to R66,564.
Meanwhile, Vodacom enters the arena at R1,999 per month for the 256GB model. That represents a mind-numbing total of R71,964 over the duration of the agreement.
Just for good measure, Cell C matches that top tier, offering their baseline iPhone Duo 256GB package at the exact same R1,999 monthly mark.
Foldables continue to represent a niche segment within the broader smartphone ecosystem, primarily constrained by these steep financial barriers. Competitors in Samsung's Fold lineup operate within a similar premium range, though rival devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 or Huawei Mate X7 arguably deliver far greater overall value for money.
To put those numbers into realistic perspective, opting out of the baseline 256GB iPhone Duo leaves enough room in your budget to comfortably secure a top-tier 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max for R45,699 instead.
Ultimately, the primary driver behind the Duo’s inflated price tag is sheer novelty. It introduces a completely fresh form factor to Apple's catalog and signals the tech giant's official entry into foldable technology.
It stands to reason then, that if you have to ask how much you will pay for the iPhone Duo - you probably can't afford it anyway.
