A charity golf tournament is set for this autumn, and Park Sang-hyun, 43, known as "Mr. Bacchus," is lending his support. Ahead of the opening of his sponsor's event, he said he will donate all of the prize money he earns at The Charity Classic 2026 on the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour. It marks the third year he has pledged his entire purse at the tournament hosted by Dong-A Socio Group, the sponsor that has backed him for 12 years since 2015, since the event was revived in 2024. Park, who is closing in on 6 billion won in career earnings, is aiming for both a milestone and a good cause at his sponsor's tournament.
According to the KPGA Tour on the 14th, Park will compete in The Charity Classic 2026, held over four days from the 15th at Seowon Valley Country Club (par 72) in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, where he will chase his first win of the season and 6 billion won in career prize money.
Park is the undisputed leader in career domestic prize money on the KPGA Tour, with 5,944,825,973 won earned to date. If he finishes alone in third place or better at this week's event — worth about 60 million won — he will become the first player in Korean professional golf history to pass 6 billion won in career earnings.
"My personal goal is to win," Park said. "I will focus even more on playing each shot with care, knowing that the better I play, the more prize money I can donate."
The Charity Classic traces its roots to the 1976 Orangee Open Golf Championship, the first golf tournament in Korea sponsored by a private company. It was revived under the name The Charity Classic in 2024 and is now in its third year. Putting "Charity" in the tournament name instead of the corporate name reflects Dong-A Socio Group's commitment to social contribution.
The tournament embodies social contribution grounded in Dong-A Socio Group's management philosophy of integrity. Under the slogan "Charity for All," participating players donate 10% of the total purse, and host Dong-A Socio Group adds matching contributions. All proceeds from the event's various on-site facilities are also added to the donation pool. More than 2.5 billion won has been raised over the two previous editions. The money was delivered to 157 children with serious illnesses through organizations including the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation and the Korea Heart Foundation.
