SINGAPORE: Singapore will issue preventive measure notices (PMNs) to three more Indonesian companies suspected of links to fires in Kalimantan that may have contributed to transboundary haze.
The latest move follows the issuance of similar notices to seven Indonesian companies on Friday over fires in Sumatra, bringing the total targeted under Singapore's Transboundary Haze Pollution Act (THPA) to 10.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) today identified the three additional companies as PT Buana Megatama Jaya, PT Mananjung Hayak, and PT Baratama Putra Perkasa.
"There are indications that smoke from fires in Kalimantan on lands held via concessions under three additional companies in Indonesia could have moved to Singapore," the NEA said.
The seven companies issued notices on Friday were PT Bumi Andalas Permai, PT Bumi Mekar Hijau, PT Paramitra Mulia Langgeng, PT Sumatera Alam Anugerah, PT SBA Wood Industries, PT Hutan Lestari Raya, and PT Bangkanesia.
The NEA said PMNs require companies to deploy firefighting personnel to extinguish blazes on land owned or occupied by them and prevent further spread.
They must also cease or refrain from initiating burning activities and submit action plans detailing measures to extinguish fires and prevent recurrence.
"NEA remains committed to taking enforcement action against errant companies found responsible for causing transboundary haze in Singapore," it added.
