Dan Quinn has gone viral after he seemingly missed an extremely crucial detail in the Washington Commanders’ Week 6 loss.
The San Francisco 49ers took their record to 6-0 with a 23-17 win against the Washington Commanders. Jayden Daniels had his moments on the night, but the Niners got the job done. As the Commanders fall to a 1-3-1 record, the situation is getting increasingly uncomfortable for their head coach.
Dan Quinn must take some of the blame for Washington’s poor start to the season. Injuries have certainly been a factor, but the team has made needless mistakes which have cost them games. Fans caught the latest mix-up in real time and are now calling for Quinn’s job.
Fans are shocked Dan Quinn ‘didn’t know’ it was fourth down when Jayden Daniels threw the ball away
With 13:08 remaining in the second quarter, Washington was trailing San Francisco 13-3 and had reached the 49ers’ 13-yard line. Daniels threw the ball away instead of trying to make a play, which resulted in a scoreless drive and a turnover.
What made the error worse was Quinn’s obvious confusion on the sidelines about what happened. A clip shows the HC possibly thought it had been third down. This led to a ruthless reaction from fans online.
“Ownership’s gonna see this video and can him in the AM,” one fan commented. “QB and HC are the biggest idiots in the NFL… How embarrassing,” said another. “Oh boy, yeah he might be fired by the morning,” a third fan suggested.
“Inexcusable especially when you know the QB has no situational awareness either,” a fourth fan wrote. “Ran the clock out for a tie last week, doesn’t know what down it is this week. Dan Quinn is terrible,” a fifth fan said. “He’s getting fired tomorrow, by the way,” a sixth fan wrote.
There are those who think his reaction was more to do with his disbelief at Daniels throwing it away rather than his lack of knowledge. Regardless, a mistake like this coming after last week’s horrible clock management could really spell trouble for Quinn in Washington.
