The LSU Tigers have a very tough matchup this weekend on the road against a red-hot Auburn Tigers squad that is fresh off a win over the Georgia Bulldogs. The Tigers have struggled on the road dating back to last year, and this is not going to be a friendly environment.
LSU has to count on its stars to get the job done in this game. Here are the four most important players on the team as they look to win their first game away from home since last year's season opener:
TE Trey'Dez Green
The Tigers got fantastic news this week as Green was taken off the injury report and is going to be active against Auburn on Saturday morning. That should act as a major boost to this offense, which has desperately missed its 6-foot-7 target.
Green was off to a fantastic start with 14 catches for 222 yards and a touchdown, and that was before Sam Leavitt started to get things rolling with his arm. Expect a lot to be drawn up for him as they try to get him involved in the offense once again.
LB TJ Dottery
Going up against Byrum Brown, Dottery is crucial. That second level is going to see a lot of work, so this could be any of the linebackers, but Dottery is the leader without Whit Weeks.
Over the past two weeks alone, Dottery has 24 tackles. He has been incredibly active this season, and it has been a major boost to this defense. He has been a sure tackler with just a 7.7% missed tackle rate. Brown is a big quarterback, so they'll need their stout linebacker to bring him down on first try.
QB Sam Leavitt
As mentioned before, Leavitt has been shaky at times as a passer this season. Unsurprisingly, his two worst performances have been the two road losses. Whenever he begins to do too much in a play, there is a chance for disaster. LSU needs him to protect the ball. He did just come off his first game of the season without a turnover, so perhaps that can serve as a confidence builder for him. They need the quick and decisive Leavitt, not the one that tries to play hero ball.
DE Princewill Umanmielen
Umanmielen began this season red-hot, but has begun to slow down. He generated 14 pressures and six sacks over the first three weeks, but is down to eight pressures and two sacks over the last four. He hasn't been awful, but his presence isn't being felt as consistently. They'll need him to get to Brown and take him down. This Auburn offensive line has allowed more sacks than just four Division I schools this year, so he should have the opportunity.
