KUALA LUMPUR: Independent pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing defied the odds to upset Thailand's world No. 5 pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran and storm into the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open on Thursday.
The Malaysian world No. 51 pair outplayed an out-of-sorts Dechapol-Supissara 21-7, 21-11 in the last-16 stage at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense.
It was another impressive outing for Pang Ron-Pei Jing after they finished runners-up at the Super 750 China Masters last month.
Pang Ron-Pei Jing will meet either French world champions Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue or Japan's Akira Koga-Natsu Saito in the quarter-finals on Friday.
