Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon said “my jaw was on the floor” when she discovered her character had fallen pregnant by her mother’s ex-boyfriend, adding: “It’s not going to end well.”
The 30-year-old actress has starred in the ITV soap on-off since 2015, and her character Bethany Platt has been at the centre of dramatic storylines revolving around issues such as grooming, bullying and her mental health.
Her latest storyline involved a controversial one-night stand with Detective Constable Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), the ex-boyfriend of her mother Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), who was in prison while they had their fling.

It was revealed in Tuesday night’s episode that Bethany has fallen pregnant with Kit’s baby, and Fallon said: “My jaw was on the floor.
“I think it’s so good that now they have got to face the consequences of what they’ve done and they can’t just brush it under the carpet in the way that they wanted to.
“It’s adding a whole other level of drama for the audience.”
Fallon said that her character’s tryst with Kit “just happened”, adding: “I don’t actually know what she was thinking.
“I think they both were in quite a bad place at the time.”
The actress said her character feels “shocked and devastated” after discovering she is pregnant, adding: “It’s not a situation that she wants to be in.
“She’s got to make a decision whether she goes ahead with it or whether she gets a termination – and that’s quite traumatic in itself.”
Reflecting on the repercussions this may have on the character, Fallon said: “I think it’s going to eat away at her until one day she can’t take it anymore.

“I think right now it’s deny, deny, deny.
“Coming clean is not an option, especially if she wants to keep a relationship with her mum because she would have the right to never speak to either of them again – the whole family would, it’s not even just Sarah.
“She’s stuck in an impossible position right now.”
Viewers have recently seen her character rekindle a romance with Ryan Connor (played by Ryan Prescott), and Fallon called this pregnancy “a massive spanner in the works” for their budding relationship.
The actress expressed her excitement for the drama to come, adding: “I think any scenes with the Platt family are always the best.
“I feel like the future drama that could happen now with everyone is exciting.
“There’s so many ways this could go, if and when it all comes out.
“It’s going to be so good and really fun to play.”
