Why I returned to legal practice after 34 years in Police — Ex-DIG Mba

Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba has said he opened a law firm after leaving the Nigeria Police Force because he wants to keep serving society in a different capacity.

Mba spoke at the unveiling of his firm, Frank Mba Legal, in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Friday, October 9, 2026.

He said the leadership, discipline, conflict management and administration of justice skills he built during his 34 years in the police would serve him well in his new career.

“Retirement is not the end of service; it is an opportunity to serve in a different capacity. My years in the Nigeria Police Force provided me with invaluable experience in leadership, discipline, conflict management and the administration of justice. I intend to bring these lessons, alongside my legal training, into this new chapter,” he said.

Mba described the law as more than a profession, saying it protects rights, settles disputes and builds public confidence in institutions.

“For me, the law is not merely a profession; it is an instrument for protecting rights, resolving disputes, upholding justice and strengthening confidence in our institutions.

“At Frank Mba Legal, our ambition is to build a practice that clients can trust and that consistently upholds the highest standards of professional conduct,” he said.

The event drew prominent figures, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and members of the National Assembly.
