Speaking on a Radio Maisha interview Tuesday morning, October 13, Omanyo revealed that Oburu is expected to leave hospital later in the day or Wednesday, October 14, following weeks of public anxiety over his condition.
She attributed much of Oburu's recovery to Kenyan medical professionals and urging the public to stop circulating harmful speculation about his health.
"First, regarding my party leader, I am very grateful to him. You know, I recently read comments from people who thought he had passed away. He hasn't; he is still here and doing well. He is fine, and whether it is today or tomorrow, he will be going home," Omanyo said.
The Busia woman representative noted that Oburu's hospitalisation had been treated as extraordinary largely because of his prominence, though the underlying condition was not unusual.
"We all get sick sometimes; anyone can feel under the weather. It is just that because he is a party leader, his illness becomes breaking news. But it is normal, he might have had a bit of high blood pressure here and there," she said.
Omanyo Warns Those Wishing Oburu Dead
Omanyo reserved sharp words for individuals who had taken to social media to wish death upon the ODM leader, a sentiment Oburu himself had already condemned through an official statement on his own social media platforms.
"Our doctors are excellent; even though he went to England, it was here in Kenya that he made the most significant recovery. Our Kenyan doctors are truly capable, and I thank them very much," Omanyo said, before turning to the death wishers.
She added'
"I even saw a comment where someone wrote that they were waiting to celebrate his death. They should realise that sometimes you might wish for someone else to die, only for you to go first. In this life, you never know."
Oburu's Illness Coincides With ODM's "Mwezi wa Baba" Programme
Oburu, 82, was admitted to The Nairobi Hospital on October 4, just days after returning from the United Kingdom on September 25, where he had spent close to three weeks receiving medical treatment.
His illness meant he missed the commissioning of a mausoleum built for his late brother, former ODM leader Raila Odinga, on October 7.
President William Ruto conducted the commissioning, and Oburu sent his apologies while thanking the president for delivering the government-funded project.
The hospitalisation also coincided with ODM's month-long tribute programme, "Mwezi wa Baba," marking one year since Raila's death on October 15, 2025, in India.
Activities began on October 2 with a national candle-lighting exercise, followed by a gathering in Kakamega on October 9.
The climax of the programme is a memorial service planned for October 15 at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, where Raila was buried, with a concluding event scheduled in Nairobi on October 31.
