(ANSA) - BELGRADO, 21 OTT - As part of the 26th edition of Italian Language Week Around the World, the Italian Ambassador to Serbia, Luca Gori, hosted the lecture-performance “Italian Language and Cuisine: Intangible Cultural Heritage and World Heritage Sites” at the Residence, presented by Professor Simone Pregnolato, a professor of the history of the Italian language at the “Cattolica del Sacro Cuore” University.
The initiative, organized by the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute, is part of the program of events dedicated to Italian Language Week Around the World, which this year is inspired by the theme “Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing, and Creating with Italian.” During the evening, Professor Pregnolato took the audience on a journey through the history of the Italian language and the nation’s culinary traditions. The evening continued with the presentation of the seventh issue of the magazine “Stagiornale,” produced by students from the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Belgrade and edited by Jovana Tutić.
The 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, scheduled for October 19–25, features a rich calendar of events in Serbia. Among the main events are music workshops organized by the “Quanto Basta” association of Bologna with students from four elementary schools in Belgrade, the exhibition “The Image of Italy Through Design” in Novi Sad, creative writing workshops with author Antonio Cucciniello in Subotica, Kragujevac, and Belgrade; the play “Alice Anfitrua” by students from the Third High School in Belgrade; and initiatives dedicated to linguistic and musical creativity organized by the “Piazza Italia” Italian Cultural Center in Subotica, including a special project focused on the figure of Dante Alighieri. The program was further enriched by the presentation in Belgrade of the Accademia della Crusca’s book “Lingua gentile, lingua geniale: ideare, progettare, creare con l’italiano,” edited by Annalisa Nesi and Raffaella Setti, which featured presentations by Snežana Milinković, full professor of Italian literature at the University of Belgrade, and Tobia Zanon, associate professor of Italian linguistics at the University of Padua. Finally, worth noting in Belgrade on October 23 was a roundtable discussion titled “Eco and the Brilliant Language: Words, Signs, Worlds,” dedicated to the intellectual and linguistic legacy of Umberto Eco.
The celebrations coincide with the events of the 69th Belgrade International Book Fair, scheduled for October 23–31, during which the Italian Cultural Institute’s booth will host numerous events dedicated to Italian literature, featuring authors such as Antonio Cucciniello, Diego Marani, Stefano Redaelli, Snežana Milinković, Mila Mihajlović, Luigi Guarnieri, and Melania Mazzucco.
“Through the events linked to the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, we aim to reaffirm that the Italian language is one of the most precious assets of our identity and an extraordinary tool for creativity,” stated Luca Gori, the Italian Ambassador to Serbia. “In Serbia,” he added, “thanks to the commitment of the Italian Cultural Institute, the teachers, the passion of the students, and collaboration with local institutions, the Italian language continues to be an important tool for dialogue and friendship between our two countries.”
