An All Progressives Congress (APC) Frontline stalwart, Dr Musa Kwankwaso, says Northern Nigeria’s political covenant with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections is sacrosanct and non-negotiable.
Mr Kwankwaso, who spoke on the sidelines of the ongoing inauguration of Arewa4Asiwaju in Abuja, vowed that the region would repay the president’s development interventions in the region with massive votes in 2027.
He said that Tinubu had demonstrated a commitment to addressing the North’s infrastructure deficit, insisting that the region had compelling reasons to sustain its political support for him.
Mr Kwankwaso cited the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, railway projects, the proposed Abuja-Kano Super Highway and Kano’s Urban Wujuwuju Road, among other interventions, as evidence of the Tinubu administration’s attention to infrastructure development in the North.
According to him, the projects have the potential to transform regional connectivity, stimulate commercial activities and unlock economic opportunities, making the administration’s infrastructure agenda a significant consideration in the North’s political calculations ahead of 2027.
“Tinubu has done his best for the North, and we shall replicate the gesture through massive voting in 2027. The covenant of the North with our beloved president is sacrosanct and, in effect, non-negotiable,” Mr Kwankwaso declared.
The APC stalwart argued that the North’s political tradition placed a premium on honouring commitments, expressing confidence that the region would remain faithful to its understanding with Tinubu as the next general election approaches.
“The North is known for fulfilling its covenant, and we shall live up to expectations again. The president should be rest assured that 2027 is his year, and the North will roar again,” he said.
The inauguration of Arewa4Asiwaju attracted an array of Northern political heavyweights, underscoring the political mobilisation around Tinubu’s re-election project.
The attendees included the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, former governors, ministers, presidential advisers and other influential stakeholders.
Kwankwaso said that the gathering presented an opportunity to consolidate support for the president, rally northern stakeholders around his development agenda and strengthen the political machinery expected to drive the campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
He maintained that the North’s commitment to Tinubu would be demonstrated at the ballot box, declaring that the region was prepared to translate its stated allegiance into electoral support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
