Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has condemned the heckling of former interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus at New York's John F Kennedy International Airport, saying the "Awami League criminals" who were responsible for the incident would not be spared.
Talking to reporters today (13 October), he also accused the Awami League, whose organisational activities are banned, of inciting violence without apologising for its past crimes.
According to a video circulating on social media, the Nobel Peace laureate, who was seen seated in a wheelchair, faced protests and verbal harassment from a group of unidentified people inside the airport premises.
They were heard shouting, "you are a terrorist", "you killed thousands", and "why you come here?"
They also accused Yunus of destroying democracy in Bangladesh and raised slogans criticising his role, as well as that of the country's police force.
The footage shows an acquaintance of Yunus pushing the wheelchair and moving forward calmly, surrounded by security personnel and associates, while the protesters continued shouting and making critical remarks at him.
No official statement from the relevant authorities was immediately available regarding the incident.
TBS could not independently confirm the date and time of the incident as of publication.
