Legora has increased its focus on the inhouse world with the launch of Intake, a legal front door that operates with its agents and which automatically does some of the initial work on incoming matters. The move comes as the legal AI platform also noted that its fastest growing client segment in the UK is now inhouse teams.
All well and good, how does it work?
They explained: ‘Intake turns everyday legal requests into tracked work in Legora and can prepare it using the legal team’s own Skills (see earlier AL article on how Skills works) and playbooks, so lawyers review a first draft rather than start from a blank page.’
In short, this not only feeds work into the legal team, it does some of the initial triaging and prep work.

They continued: ‘The [Legora] Agent that handles a legal request works with the instructions and context already in the system. That is what sets it apart from most existing intake tools, which use AI to triage and route a request but leave the lawyer to do the work in another tool.’

They then gave the following example:
- An employee raises a request in their company’s legal-requests channel in Slack.
- The Legora Agent reads the request,
- It asks in the thread for anything that’s missing,
- Then routes it to the right legal team as a tracked task with an owner and a due date.
- Then it prepares the work, drawing on the team’s own playbooks and precedents.
However they added that how far the Agent goes is the legal team’s decision, depending on each type of request. I.e. if things are likely to need immediate human interaction, then the Intake process can be very limited, and conversely, handle far more if you want.
Thus, this means that: ‘For routine requests the team has approved in advance, such as a standard NDA, the Agent can complete the whole task and send the answer back to the requester.’
Plus ‘because every request is logged with a task type, assignee, and turnaround times, legal leaders [can see] data on what the business asks of legal’.
Bryan Tsao, Chief Product Officer at Legora, commented: ‘It’s easy to use AI to make an individual lawyer faster. What matters is turning that into ROI for the whole legal team, and that means building a platform that takes care of the work around the work. With Intake, a request from the business goes straight to the Legora Agent, which works from the team’s own Skills and integrations as one end-to-end system.’
Is this a big deal?
Well, Legora is clearly investing a lot of time and resources into building for the inhouse world. That makes sense as the corporate sector is still very open as a market and there is much to play for. And if you are a large, multi-capability AI platform in search of plenty of additional revenue then this is a good place to aim for.
And as AL has written about before, there are a lot of companies looking at product areas such as intake, and then broadening outwards, such as seen with Coheso. Legora is going the other way, starting with a broad platform and now focusing on building specific tools for inhouse teams.
Looks like inhouse is increasingly going to be a battleground for legal AI platform market share.
