Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms IPO attracted intense investor demand as bidding closed on Friday, October 23, for its USD 3.2 billion offering in India. The country’s largest-ever IPO drew retail buyers, institutions and existing shareholders seeking exposure to India’s telecom and digital services market. Exchange data showed public subscriptions exceeding seven times the shares available, reflecting strong appetite for the landmark listing.
Jio priced its offering between Rs. 1,065 and Rs. 1,119 per share, valuing the company at up to USD 108.3 billion. At the upper price band, total public demand could exceed USD 16 billion, while the shares are scheduled to begin trading on October 28. The offering marks the Reliance group’s first major public issue in two decades and tests investor appetite for large Indian listings.
Institutional Investors Show Strong Interest
The IPO attracted significant interest before public bidding began, with anchor investors seeking a reserved allocation worth USD 854 million. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, BlackRock and Fidelity participated in that tranche, which received bids exceeding USD 25 billion. Their participation added to expectations surrounding Jio’s stock market debut.
The retail portion received bids for twice the shares available, while employees subscribed 2.5 times their quota. Existing Reliance Industries shareholders showed stronger demand, bidding for 5.7 times their reserved allocation. The IPO also filled within hours of opening on Wednesday, an unusually quick response for an offering of this size.
Jio’s Digital Reach Drives Investor Interest
Jio operates one of India’s largest mobile networks, serving more than 500 million customers since its launch in 2016. Its low-cost voice and data strategy reshaped the telecom market and intensified competition with rivals such as Bharti Airtel. Investors are also watching its broader digital ambitions and backing from global technology companies.
Meta Platforms and Google count among Jio Platforms’ investors, adding to the company’s profile beyond telecom services. Akash Ambani leads the business as the Reliance group prepares for a major market milestone. The October 28 listing will reveal how public-market investors value Jio after its exceptional subscription response.
