The Puducherry police are searching for a photographer accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a hotel in August.
The All Women Police, Royapuram, have registered a Zero FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and transferred the case to the Puducherry police for further investigation.
A police team from Puducherry visited Chennai on Friday to trace the accused, identified as Thiagu. He was reportedly absconding when the police went looking for him in Royapuram.
The case came to light last month after the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Chennai received information about the alleged abuse. CWC members and volunteers subsequently visited the locality and spoke to the girl.
According to the complaint, Thiagu had known the girl’s mother for 14 years, and she had allegedly agreed to marry her daughter to him after the girl turned 18. The girl had discontinued her education after Class 9 and was living with her mother.
The girl, her mother, and Thiagu travelled to Puducherry on August 28 for a modelling photoshoot and stayed at a hotel near Muthialpet.
The complaint alleges that Thiagu sexually assaulted the girl on August 30, while her mother was talking to someone outside the hotel room.
Following a complaint from a Chennai district CWC coordinator, the Royapuram All-Women Police registered a Zero FIR and alerted Puducherry police, as the alleged offence took place there. The case was subsequently transferred to the Puducherry police for further investigation.
