Tonga Police arrested and charged 65 motorists for drink-driving last week, including a 33-year-old man who also faces charges involving methamphetamine and drug utensils.
The latest figures, released on Wednesday, 21 October, highlight continuing concerns about road safety as police maintain enforcement operations across the kingdom.
According to the police statement, those arrested comprised 51 men and 14 women.
Among them was a man from Houmakelikao who was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug utensils.
Police did not disclose the quantity of drugs allegedly found or provide further details about the circumstances of his arrest.
Drink-driving arrests remain high
The latest total exceeds the 50 arrests recorded in an earlier weekly police report, which involved 38 men and 12 women.
Another previous operation resulted in 32 arrests, reflecting the continuing number of motorists being apprehended for alcohol-related driving offences.
However, the figures alone do not establish whether drink-driving itself is increasing or whether police enforcement has intensified.
Tonga Police said it would continue operations aimed at strengthening road safety and protecting all road users.
