Amnesty International Nigeria has warned that no part of Millennium City in Kaduna State is safe as bandits and other gunmen continue to attack residents and abduct people.
In a post on X, the human rights organisation said attacks and kidnappings had increased in and around the neighbourhood, with armed men operating freely at any time of the day.
“On 19 August, gunmen invaded Kyauta area and abducted over a dozen people. Abductions take place in broad daylight. In some parts of the area, people are setting up vigilantes to defend themselves while others are abandoning their homes and moving out of the area to safety,” Amnesty said.
The organisation also cited the abduction of Ahmad Abubakar Zakka, his wife and their baby daughter, who were kidnapped when gunmen invaded Alrahus Estate in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area, on October 5, 2026.
According to Amnesty, a viral video showed the family’s abductors pointing AK-47 rifles at their heads and threatening to shoot them.
The organisation said residents were living in constant fear of further attacks and abductions, forcing some families to suspend their children’s education.
“No part of Millennium City Kaduna is safe now. People live perpetually in fear always bracing up for the next attack or abduction, or both,” it said.
Amnesty expressed concern over the continued killings and abductions, as well as what it described as the authorities’ failure to stop the attacks and bring suspected perpetrators to justice.
It warned that the persistent violence remained a serious threat to the right to life in Kaduna State.
