The third edition of the Ongos Valley Sevens will reach its climax tomorrow at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, where the country’s top teams will compete for the 2026 championship title.
The Championship leg follows the southern leg in Oranjemund and the coastal leg in Walvis Bay, bringing together the strongest field of the series for the final showdown.
According to Ongos Valley marketing and public relations officer Abed Erastus, the championship round will feature all premier league teams, three regional teams, and two teams from the Western Cape, making it the most competitive leg of the tournament.
“The Championship Leg is the finale of the third edition. After the Southern Leg in Oranjemund and the Coastal Leg in Walvis Bay, the country’s best teams meet in one place, and the 2026 champions are crowned,” Erastus said.
Beyond the action on the field, organisers are preparing a family-friendly event featuring entertainment, food vendors, family activities and a VIP hospitality area.
Supporters will also have the chance to take part in fan competitions, including best-dressed fan, best dance skills challenge and most passionate fan prizes.
The national Ongos Valley Sevens title will be at stake, with teams also competing for a share of the prize money pool, although the final amount has not yet been confirmed.
Erastus said the tournament also serves as a platform for identifying talent for the national sevens programme, giving players the chance to showcase their abilities in front of selectors and other stakeholders.
He added that teams would need to demonstrate fitness, discipline and sound decision-making under pressure to emerge victorious.
“In sevens, every tackle, ruck and pass counts, and one mistake can decide a match,” Erastus said.
Organisers, working alongside the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU), are also putting measures in place to ensure a successful event and a welcoming stadium experience.
With the season’s title on the line and a competitive field expected in Windhoek, the Championship Leg promises an opportunity for teams to finish their campaigns on a high while giving players a platform to make their mark in Namibian rugby.
