Government unveils KSh 77.7 billion plan to upgrade 536 km of roads
In other news on TUKO.co.ke, the Kenyan government issued a procurement notice for the World Bank-funded Roads for Rural Economic Development Project, valued at KSh 77.7 billion (USD 600 million), to upgrade approximately 536 kilometres of roads across seven Rift Valley counties.
The project will cover Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Narok and Nakuru, with roads upgraded to bituminous standards using climate-resilient designs, alongside bridge construction, road safety improvements and fibre-optic installations.
The initiative will also finance community infrastructure and upgrades to three cross-border trade stations at Olposimoru, Nyamtiro and Kopanga, including buildings and digital systems to improve trade facilitation.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said procurement would follow World Bank regulations, with eligible firms and individuals able to compete for contracts whose notices will be published on the World Bank and KeNHA websites and in at least one Kenyan newspaper of national circulation.
