The New York Rangers are one of the most surprising teams in the NHL through the early part of the season as they are in second place in the Metropolitan Division, just two points behind the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.
In an effort to improve the overall depth of their forward group, the Rangers have signed Luke Glendening after the 13-year NHL veteran had a professional try out with the team.
Glendening has played center at many points in his career, but he can also play on the wing. The 37-year-old has primarily been a defensive player throughout his career. He has never scored more than 12 goals in a season. He has not scored in double figures since the 2018-19 season when he scored 10 goals while playing for the Detroit Red Wings.

Glendening spent 10 years with the Red Wings, two years with the Tampa Bay Lightning, two years with the Dallas Stars along with single seasons with the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers.
Glendening is knowns for his speed on the ice as well as his ability in the face-off circle. He has connected on 55.6 percent of the draws he has taken throughout his career.
The Rangers will likely use him on their fourth line and as a penalty killer. His speed on the ice allows him to cover much of the defensive zone when his team is shorthanded.
The Rangers have had an issue with their fourth-line center since veteran Joe Veleno went down with a lower-body injury. Glendening will have an excellent chance to fill that role.
