The Halloween festivities have already started for celebrities. On October 20, Kim Kardashian posted one of the year’s first high-profile costumes, revealing her transformation into her 13-year-old daughter North West, who has embraced an edgier, punk look as a musician. “Halloween 2026🧟♀️,” she captioned the post. (West hasn’t shared a public reaction to her mother’s homage just yet.)
Victoria Justice, meanwhile, hosted one of the first parties of the season on October 13. She threw an event, called Love Zombie: The Resurrection, at Say Yes in Los Angeles.
While stars are only beginning to unveil their costumes now, many ensembles are months in the making. In 2022, Heidi Klum, who debuts elaborate costumes at her famous Halloween party each year, told People that she’d start planning her look for the following year on November 1. “When I wake up tomorrow, I start thinking of the next [costume],” she said. Her 2025 Medusa costume took six months to create.
Some designers work with a much tighter turnaround. In 2017, Yousef Aljasmi told ELLE that he had less than two weeks to make Kardashian’s Madonna costume, a recreation of the singer’s 1991 Academy Awards dress by Bob Mackie. “Once we were confirmed for the job, we had about 10 days to create Kim’s costume,” he explained. “After two fittings, Kim’s costume was perfected.”
As the parties ramp up—and the stars continue unveiling their looks on red carpets and social media—scroll through the best costumes of the year, from spooky ensembles to clever pop culture references.
