The Czech bluegrass band Druhá tráva with Robert Křesťan were formed 35 years ago this year. Celebrations are set to culminate with a show in Prague.
Robert Křesťan, a lyricist, singer and guitarist, set up Druhá tráva in 1991 with banjo player Luboš Malina. The lineup was rounded out by Luboš Novotný (resonator guitar), Pavel Malina (guitar) and Jiří Meisner (bass).
Druhá tráva means “second grass”, a nod to the bluegrass tradition the band work in.
Along with their own songs, the group are known for cover versions of international artists, many in the field of folk and country, such as Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan (they released a Dylan songs LP named Dylanovky), Mark Knopfler, Tom Waits and Kris Kristofferson. They have also performed in the United States and their latest LP is titled Memphis.
Druhá tráva will celebrate their 35 years on the scene with a special concert at Prague’s O2 Universum on November 7.
