Bayern Munich have confirmed that winger Luis Diaz sustained a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena.
The Bundesliga champions announced on Thursday that medical examinations revealed a minor muscle fibre tear in the Colombian international’s left hamstring.
Diaz, 29, will consequently be unavailable for an unspecified period, handing Bayern another injury concern during a demanding run of fixtures.
The club’s official statement read: “Luis Díaz picked up a minor muscle fibre tear in his left hamstring during FC Bayern’s Champions League game against Arsenal on Wednesday night.”
Bayern added that the injury had been confirmed by their medical department and that the attacker would be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
No specific recovery timeline has been provided, leaving his availability for the club’s upcoming domestic and European matches uncertain.
Diaz featured against Arsenal as Bayern surrendered a second-half advantage to settle for a point in an entertaining encounter.
Eberechi Eze had initially put the visitors ahead before Alphonso Davies equalised following an excellent pass from Harry Kane.
Kane subsequently converted a penalty after Jurrien Timber handled his goalbound effort, putting Bayern on course for victory.
Diaz was introduced during the second half and almost extended the hosts’ lead, forcing David Raya into a save with a curling effort.
However, Declan Rice struck late following an exchange with Viktor Gyokeres to secure a draw for Arsenal.
The result extended Bayern’s unbeaten home record in Champions League group-stage and league-phase matches to 40 games.
Diaz’s injury now creates an additional selection problem for Bayern as they attempt to maintain their domestic momentum and improve their European results.
The Colombian has become an important attacking option since arriving from Liverpool, offering pace, direct running and versatility across the forward line.
His absence could require Bayern to adjust their attacking rotation, particularly with several important fixtures approaching.
The German champions have already experienced personnel difficulties this season, making the timing of another injury particularly unwelcome.
However, the club’s description of the damage as a minor muscle fibre tear offers some encouragement regarding the potential length of his absence.
Bayern have not indicated whether Diaz will require further treatment beyond the rehabilitation programme overseen by their medical staff.
His return will therefore depend on his response to recovery work and subsequent fitness assessments.
For now, Bayern must prepare for their upcoming matches without the Colombian while awaiting further clarity on when he can resume training.
