The Coimbatore Corporation will conduct a tele-monitoring drive from October 17 to 20 to track the health of pregnant women travelling out of town during the holiday period.
The initiative, ‘Holiday Calls’, will cover 33 Urban Primary Health Centres in the city to ensure continuity of maternal healthcare for women who are away from their usual places of residence.
Staff nurses will contact pregnant women to record their travel dates, destinations and expected return dates. They will also document their health status, gestational age, recent check-ups and upcoming scans and tests. Information on nearby government hospitals and primary health centres at their destinations will be shared with the families.
Women with high-risk pregnancies and those nearing their expected delivery dates will receive priority attention and frequent follow-ups. They will be advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience warning signs such as labour pain, bleeding, reduced foetal movements, severe headache, swelling or fever.
If a woman cannot be reached by telephone, staff will make repeated attempts. If the calls remain unanswered, field-level medical officers and sector workers will be alerted to check on her.
Staff nurses at the 33 health centres will maintain daily call reports, while data entry operators will verify the records, make random cross-check calls and reconcile discrepancies.
The drive aims to ensure the safety of pregnant women and their babies and reduce the risk of complications during the holiday period, officials said.
