DAEGU — Daegu Technopark said on the 15th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai Robot Industrial Technology Research Institute of China to promote innovation and industrial cooperation in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Also joining the agreement were regional organizations including the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Robot Industry Promotion Association, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk ICT Industry Association, the Yeongnam chapter of the Korea Association of Women IT Entrepreneurs, Kyungpook National University's Advanced Information and Communications Convergence Industry Technology Institute and Daegu Haany University's AI Utilization Support Project Group.
The agreement was signed on the 14th at the joint Daegu pavilion of the China International Industry Fair, which is being held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
The partner organizations agreed to move beyond technology exchange in AI, robotics and spatial computing to connect research and development with commercialization and market entry.
Specifically, they agreed to cooperate on identifying joint Korea-China research projects in AI and robotics; linking technology exchange between companies and research institutes to commercialization; on-site demonstrations, certification, sales channels and entry into each other's markets; international joint seminars and forums; and internships, field training and mutual exchanges for researchers and employees.
The two sides said they would actively pursue cooperation in physical AI applications, including spatial recognition for manufacturing, logistics and service settings, autonomous robot manipulation, multi-robot control and the use of three-dimensional spatial data.
"This agreement is a practical starting point for connecting the region's AI and robotics industry to Shanghai's technology demonstration network," an official at Daegu Technopark said. "We will lead follow-up discussions and strengthen implementation so that it leads to concrete results, such as upgrading companies' technology and expanding their overseas sales channels."
