The Washington Commanders have already dealt with injuries to their quarterbacks, Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota, in the 2026 season, but with Daniels back, things were looking up.
But their bad injury luck continued as star wide receiver Terry McLaurin went down with an apparent knee injury and was carted off the field. The NFL world reacted with support for McLaurin after his first-quarter exit.
Chad Johnson and NFL World Offer Support and Prayers
The cart quickly came onto the field, and McLaurin was fitted with an air cast on his left leg before being taken off. The Commanders soon ruled him out for the remainder of Monday Night Football with a knee injury. The scene was concerning, as teammates gathered around McLaurin before he was carted off the field.
“A potentially serious knee injury for Terry McLaurin,” added NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
“Terry McLaurin is down. What a disaster,” added NFL Draft analyst and Commanders fan Josh Taylor.
Chad Johnson knows what it means to play receiver at a high level in the NFL. He was quick to offer his prayers to McLaurin on social media after he went down.

“Prayers up to my dawg Scary Terry,”said Johnson.
“Terry McLaurin being carted off the field in an air cast. Commanders players praying around him. 49ers players shaking his hand as he leaves the field. Just a complete nightmare for Washington,” announcer Grant Paulsen chimed in.
McLaurin is a big loss for this Commanders offense. He is the 30th-ranked receiver in PFN’s WR Impact Metric with a grade of 75.6.

If McLaurin is out for a significant time, as expected, Stefon Diggs is going to have to show why he’s one of the premier wideouts in the game to support the passing game. Alongside Diggs, this injury will open up more opportunities for rookie WR Antonio Williams to flourish.

Beyond the on-field loss, McLaurin is a highly respected player and human across the league. Losing a leader like McLaurin is a horrible loss.
“If you were to rank the 10 best HUMAN BEINGS in the National Football League… Terry McLaurin would be on that list. Elite player. Better human being. Prayers for the legend, Terry McLaurin,” added NFL analyst Sam Block.
“Fred Warner, George Kittle, Trent Williams, and Mike Evans all ran 50+ yards across the field to greet Terry McLaurin before the Washington receiver was carted off. Respect and sportsmanship from four of the 49ers’ greats,”said one 49ers analyst.

McLaurin’s future in Washington could be in question if he misses the rest of the season.
“Everyone loves Terry McLaurin. Very clearly. Hate to see the air cast and no guaranteed money left on his deal,” added Yahoo’s Hayden Winks.
McLaurin has no fully guaranteed salary currently scheduled for 2028, while $5.35 million of his 2027 base salary is guaranteed for injury and will become fully guaranteed in April 2027, giving Washington some future flexibility.
He also missed seven games in 2025 and had already missed one game this season due to a hamstring injury. For now, however, the Commanders are awaiting a diagnosis on his latest injury as support continues to pour in for the veteran receiver.
