Oyo State, Nigeria, October 13th, 2026 — KuCoin Nigeria Limited has received conditional Approval-in-Principle (AIP) from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria (SEC Nigeria), for admission into its Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme (ARIP). The development marks another important milestone in KuCoin’s global regulatory journey and further reflects the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening its global compliance framework and building trusted digital asset infrastructure.
As part of the AIP review process, KuCoin Nigeria demonstrated elements of its proposed platform and operating model to SEC Nigeria. The demonstration covered proposed products and services for Nigeria, customer onboarding procedures, fiat on- and off-ramp arrangements, technology infrastructure, and governance and risk management structures. The conditional Approval-in-Principle is not a final registration, licence, endorsement or recommendation by SEC Nigeria and does not authorise KuCoin Nigeria to commence operations, onboard clients or offer services to the Nigerian public. However, this preparatory work reflects KuCoin’s focus on incorporating local accountability, user protection and risk management into its proposed operations.
Nigeria has a vibrant digital economy and a rapidly developing digital asset ecosystem, making it one of the world’s key markets for digital asset adoption and innovation. KuCoin believes that building a healthy and sustainable digital asset market requires constructive engagement between industry participants and regulators, together with continued improvements in governance, transparency, market integrity and user protection.
KuCoin’s regulatory engagement in Nigeria forms part of its broader approach to meeting local requirements across key markets. In Europe, KuCoin EU has received authorisation under MiCAR, enabling it to provide regulated crypto-asset services across the European Union. In Australia, KuCoin operates through Axis One Markets Pty Ltd, which is registered with AUSTRAC as a digital currency exchange provider. Each authorisation or registration applies solely to the relevant entity and activities within the applicable jurisdiction. None of these authorisations or registrations authorises KuCoin Nigeria to operate or provide services in Nigeria. KuCoin is committed to respecting local regulatory frameworks in each market, aligning its operations with applicable requirements and obtaining the relevant authorisations or registrations in each jurisdiction.
BC Wong, CEO of KuCoin, said: “Receiving conditional Approval-in-Principle from SEC Nigeria marks another important milestone in KuCoin’s global compliance journey. As digital assets become an increasingly important part of the global financial system, trust must be built through continuously strengthening governance, maintaining high compliance standards and enhancing user protection. We value the opportunity to engage constructively with SEC Nigeria through ARIP and to continue building in line with Nigeria’s evolving regulatory framework. Our focus remains on strong governance, high compliance standards and meaningful user protection as we support the responsible and sustainable development of the digital asset ecosystem.”
For KuCoin, compliance is not only about meeting regulatory requirements; it is also about building long-term trust. Looking ahead, KuCoin will continue advancing responsible innovation, strengthening its global governance, operational resilience and user protection capabilities, and working with regulators, partners and industry participants to support the development of a more mature, transparent and trusted digital asset market.
