President of the Republic Daniel Chapo discussed prospects for expanding Azura Power’s investments in Mozambique’s energy sector with the company’s CEO, Dave Peacock, at a meeting held on Thursday at his office. The discussions focused on power generation, transmission and other related infrastructure.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss investment opportunities in the country’s energy sector and Azura Power’s interest in expanding its presence in Mozambique, at a time when the country is seeking to increase its power generation capacity and improve its energy infrastructure.
Azura Power is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a presence in several African markets, including Mozambique, where it is a co-owner of the Ressano Garcia Thermal Power Plant (CTRG), one of the largest privately owned power plants in operation in the country.
The company also operates in Nigeria and Senegal, carrying out activities related to power generation and supply and participating in energy infrastructure projects across the African continent.
Speaking after the meeting, Dave Peacock said the company intended to expand its presence in Mozambique across different areas of the energy sector.
“We are here today because we have great ambitions to do much more in Mozambique, both in power generation and in transmission and other related infrastructure,” said the Azura Power CEO.
Peacock said the company was interested in the country’s future prospects and expressed its intention to continue assessing opportunities for new investments in Mozambique.
“We are very excited about Mozambique’s future prospects and look forward to doing more,” he said.
Azura Power is therefore considering the possibility of expanding its involvement in Mozambique’s energy sector beyond its current presence in electricity generation to include transmission projects and other related infrastructure.
The meeting forms part of the President of the Republic’s vision of turning Mozambique’s energy potential into concrete investment opportunities by promoting private-sector involvement in the development of electricity generation and transmission infrastructure, which is essential for economic growth and the country’s industrialisation.
