By Breaking Belize News Staff: The shocking murder investigation involving six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran in Guyana has taken another disturbing turn, with police confirming that the child’s body was discovered without its head and portions of his limbs, while his father and a spiritual adviser remain in custody.
Orlando’s partially decomposed body was recovered on Tuesday, October 20, from the Waterloo Main Canal in West Coast Berbice, five days after he was reported missing. Investigators confirmed that his head, part of his left hand and part of his right foot were missing.
According to News Room Guyana, preliminary police investigations suggest that the child was taken to the canal and struck in the neck with a cutlass.
The case gained international attention after the child’s father, 45-year-old Bharrat Jaikarran, reportedly confessed to throwing Orlando into the water despite knowing he could not swim.
According to the Guyana Chronicle, the father allegedly told investigators that a Hindu spiritual adviser, known as a pujari, had informed him that Orlando was not his biological son.
A pujari is a Hindu religious officiant who performs ceremonies and may provide spiritual guidance. The father’s allegation about what the adviser told him has not been independently established.
Police have since detained a second man believed to be the spiritual adviser, according to Guyanese media reports. Both men remained in police custody as investigators pursued the suspected murder.
In another development, police seized six cutlasses and other items during searches in Bath Settlement. Investigators have not established publicly whether any of the weapons were used in the killing.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination has failed to determine Orlando’s cause of death. Region Five Commander Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite confirmed that the examination was inconclusive, while police continued searching for the child’s missing head and portions of his limbs.
The disturbing discovery has raised further questions about the circumstances of Orlando’s death, including whether his injuries were inflicted before or after he entered the water.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not publicly established the precise circumstances of the child’s death.
