Tributes have been paid following the sudden death of a popular young airline pilot originally from County Tipperary.
Robert (Rob) Gallagher, of Perosa, Birr Road, Roscrea, Tipperary, and Brooklands, Nutley Lane, Donnybrook, Dublin, died at home on Wednesday, October 14.
His colleagues at Aer Lingus have expressed their condolences at the young pilot’s passing.
“We first crossed paths at Entry Point North and were lucky enough to work together again as First Officers at Aer Lingus,” one colleague said.
“I’ll always remember the chats and banter in the crew room and the conversations even brief when handing over an aircraft mostly your suggestions of things to do. The last time we did that was in Minneapolis.
“Rob had a way of lighting up a room with his wit and humour, and he’ll be sorely missed.
“Thinking of Rob’s family, friends and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest easy Rob. Fly high, until we meet again.”
Another colleague said: “Rob was one of life’s genuinely good guys. A heart of gold, a brilliant sense of humour and always time for everyone. I’ll miss our endless chats and laughs. You were so proud to be a pilot, Rob, and I am so proud to call you my friend.
“I never imagined a day when I wouldn’t be able to pick up the phone or arrange another coffee. I’ll carry the memories with me forever, but I’ll miss the person who made them even more. How lucky I was to have you as my friend, Rob. How terribly sad I am to have to say goodbye.”
A friend wrote: “Remembering Robert Rob Gallagher for the immense good he brought into this world. He was a true role model who reached the heights of his chosen flying career, bringing friendships and talent to the skies.
“The brightest light in your lives may be dimmed right now, but in time, beautiful memories will find their way back into your hearts. A treasured all-rounder, a gentleman, and a beautiful soul, now at peace.”
Robert is mourned by his parents Marian and Gary, brothers Peter and Sam, sisters-in-law Lisa and Sarah, nieces Éabha, Anna and Lily, nephew Ted, aunts Joan Egan, Sally Devlin, June and Mary Gallagher, Rita Delaney, his uncles Liam Delaney, Michael Egan, Jim Feeley and Sean Devlin, extended family and wide circle of friends including colleagues at Aer Lingus.
His remains will lie in repose at Tierney’s Funeral Home, Roscrea, on Monday evening from 4pm to 7pm. A private removal will take place from his residence on Tuesday at 11.30am arriving in St Cronan’s Church, Roscrea, for funeral mass at 12pm. Burial is afterwards in Dungar cemetery, Roscrea.
