New Zealand have suffered another injury setback ahead of their November Northern Hemisphere tour, with winger Leroy Carter ruled out for the remainder of the year. The latest blow leaves the All Blacks with six confirmed injuries as they prepare to resume the Nations Championship.
Carter underwent surgery for an ankle injury sustained during the opening Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia at Eden Park. The 27-year-old sustained the injury while scoring a try in New Zealand’s 50-19 win.
He was helped off the field and subsequently missed the return fixture in Sydney, where the All Blacks secured another win, beating Australia 43-21.
SA Rugby Magazine reported the development on 19 October 2026.
All Blacks injury list grows before November tour
Carter is the latest addition to an injury list that already includes captain Ardie Savea, loose forward Luke Jacobson, winger Caleb Clarke, flyhalf Ruben Love and prop Ollie Norris.
The players have been sidelined with various injuries, including shoulder, elbow, ankle and knee problems.
The growing list of absentees presents a selection challenge for New Zealand as they prepare for three demanding Tests in Europe. The tour will test the squad’s depth across several positions.
New Zealand's November fixtures
New Zealand’s European campaign gets underway against Scotland at Murrayfield on 7 November, followed by a clash with Wales in Cardiff on 14 November. The All Blacks will round off their three-Test run against England in London on 21 November.
Meanwhile, loose forward Shannon Frizell and No. 2 Samisoni Taukei’aho remain under assessment after sustaining injuries in the second Bledisloe Cup Test in Sydney. The All Blacks have yet to confirm whether either player will be fit for the tour.
With Leroy Carter already ruled out, New Zealand’s preparations now include monitoring the fitness of the two injured forwards as the coaching staff works towards finalising its squad for the November Tests.
