Winters in many parts of India can be too cold. A room heater can help keep the indoor temperatures comfortable during such conditions. While there are several types of room heaters, and the right choice depends on how quickly you need warmth, the size of your room, power consumption, and safety features. This guide focuses on oil-filled radiators (OFRs), which take longer to warm up than fan heaters but provide steady, quiet heat. They heat oil sealed inside metal fins, which then transfer heat to the surrounding air. Some models also use a PTC fan to provide warmth sooner while the radiator heats up.
Survey
✅ Thank you for completing the survey!
We have selected five models based on heating output, temperature controls, safety, convenience, and value for money. I have also looked for models that serve different needs, rather than choosing products based on fin count alone. Oil-filled radiators do not have exposed heating elements, but their surfaces can become hot during use. Look for features such as overheat protection, tip-over protection, and an adjustable thermostat. Also consider the heater’s power rating, room suitability and portability before buying.
The following list is arranged in descending order of price.
Philips 11-fin oil-filled radiator
Price: Rs 14,750
The Philips 11-fin oil-filled radiator is a good option for buyers who want flexible temperature control alongside fan-assisted heating. Its 11 M-shaped fins are designed to increase the surface area available for heat transfer. Philips claims that this design heats faster than straight fins of the same size.
The heater offers five heat settings, with rated power ranging from 400W to 2,900W depending on the selected mode. You also get a PTC fan provides quicker initial warmth while the oil-filled radiator heats up. This combination is useful when you want some immediate warmth without relying on the fan for the entire heating session.
Other features in the mix include an adjustable thermostat, overheat protection, tilt protection, 360-degree castor wheels, and a dual-knob control. Philips also lists a two-year warranty for this model.
At Rs 14,750, it is one of the more expensive options here. Its main strengths are the multiple heat settings, fan-assisted heating and safety features. While going for purchase, you can compare its price with the Russell Hobbs ROR15F, which has more fins and a similar maximum rated output.

Russell Hobbs ROR15F 15-fin oil-filled radiator
Price: Rs 14,699
The Russell Hobbs ROR15F is worth considering if you want a larger fin count and high rated heating output. It has 15 fins and a maximum rated power of 2,900W, including a fan-assisted heating system.
Its built-in fan helps provide warmth sooner, while the oil-filled radiator continues to transfer heat. A variable thermostat lets you regulate the temperature, and the heater includes overheat protection and anti-tilt protection. It also has castor wheels, cord storage and a fire-retardant front body.
The main drawback is its size and weight. At around 19kg, it is not particularly easy to lift or carry between floors, although the wheels help when moving it across a room.
At Rs 14,699, it costs slightly less than the Philips. It makes sense for buyers who prefer its 15-fin design and conventional controls. However, more fins do not automatically guarantee faster heating or better performance in every room. Other aspects like room conditions and the heater’s power output matter too.
Usha 4213 FU PTC U-shaped 13-fin oil-filled radiator
Price: Rs 13,999
The Usha 4213 FU PTC combines a 13-fin radiator with a PTC fan heater. Its U-shaped fins are designed to increase the surface area available for heat transfer. Usha claims that this design can provide up to 19% higher heating efficiency than conventional alternatives, although this is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified comparison.
The radiator has three power settings of 1,000W, 1,500W and 2,500W. It also has a 400W PTC fan heater, giving it a combined maximum rated output of 2,900W when both heating systems operate at their maximum settings.
The repertoire includes an adjustable thermostat, overheat protection, tip-over protection, castor wheels and a cord winder. Usha also lists IP23 protection, an ISI mark and a two-year warranty.
At Rs 13,999, the Usha offers a useful combination of radiator heating and faster, fan-assisted warmth. It is a practical option for buyers who want high-rated output without paying close to Rs 15,000.
The main consideration is that the Nuuk Hot Blox 2 costs the same but takes a different approach, focusing on smart controls rather than maximum heating output.
Nuuk Hot Blox 2 HT361136GYS
Price: Rs 13,999
The Nuuk Hot Blox 2 is the most distinct option in this list. While conventional oil-filled radiators focus on heat settings and physical controls, the Nuuk adds app connectivity, energy-use tracking and an automatic Eco mode.
It has 11 M-shaped fins and a maximum rated power of 2,200W. There are three fixed heat modes, rated at 1,000W, 1,200W and 2,200W. Its Eco mode adjusts the power level between 1,000W and 2,200W to maintain the selected room temperature. The temperature range is 15°C to 35°C.
The Nuuk app lets you adjust the heater’s temperature and modes, as well as monitor energy use. A physical remote control is included, so you do not have to rely on your phone every time you change a setting. Nuuk also advertises RapidHeat technology and energy savings, but those performance claims should not be treated as independently established results.
There are trade-offs, though. Its maximum output is lower than the 2,900W combined ratings of the Philips, Russell Hobbs and Usha models. It does not list a PTC fan heater either, so buyers who want fan-assisted initial warmth may prefer those alternatives.
At Rs 13,999, the Nuuk makes sense for buyers who value remote adjustment, temperature management and energy-use monitoring. It is not the obvious choice for someone who simply wants the highest rated heating output for the money.
Orient Electric Comforter Collection 13-fin oil-filled radiator
Price: Rs 10,599
The Orient Electric Comforter Collection 13-fin radiator is the most affordable model in this selection. It offers a maximum rated output of 2,900W, three heat settings and an adjustable thermostat. It also has a built-in PTC fan heater to provide quicker initial warmth.
Its other practical features include castor wheels, a 360-degree tip-over safety switch and cord storage. These help when moving the heater between rooms or putting it away after winter.
The main advantage is its price. At Rs 10,599, it costs considerably less than the other four selections while offering a 13-fin radiator and fan-assisted heating.
It does not have Nuuk’s app controls or Philips’ M-shaped fins. But those features may not matter to buyers who primarily want a high-output oil-filled radiator with basic temperature controls.
The Orient is therefore a sensible starting point for buyers who want to keep the purchase price under control without giving up the core features expected from an oil-filled radiator.
Which oil heater should you buy?
The Philips 11-fin model is worth considering for its adjustable heat settings, M-shaped fins and fan-assisted heating. The Russell Hobbs ROR15F is an alternative for buyers who prefer a 15-fin radiator. The Usha combines high rated output with a U-shaped fin design, while the Nuuk is better suited to buyers who value smart controls and energy-use monitoring.
For most buyers working with a tighter budget, the Orient Electric Comforter Collection 13-fin radiator offers a sensible balance of price and features.
Before buying, check the heater’s recommended room size, power settings, warranty and electrical requirements. A higher wattage does not automatically make a heater more suitable for every room. Room size, insulation, drafts and how long you run the heater also affect the result. Moreover, always use a suitable power socket, keep the heater clear of curtains and bedding, and do not cover it while it is operating.
