Aegean Airlines’ long-serving CEO and co-founder Dimitris Gerogiannis is stepping down after 20 years in the role. Deputy CEO and CFO Michalis Kouveliotis takes over immediately.
Gerogiannis will remain as an advisor with oversight of the Technical Base and Training Center during the transition.
Kouveliotis has been CFO since before Aegean’s listing and has served as deputy CEO since early 2025, coordinating the company’s business divisions.
Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis said Kouveliotis had already demonstrated his ability to support the airline through growth and crisis and had led the transition process. He emphasised the need to empower the second generation of executives while preserving Aegean’s values of service quality and agility.
Aegean plans to add long-haul destinations as Airbus A321LRs join the fleet. The airline has recently limited capacity growth into 2027 amid higher fuel costs and regional pressures.
