The Dallas Cowboys are 2-4 after six games, with losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. With the November 10 NFL trade deadline approaching, Jerry Jones has left the door open for roster additions.
Jones ruled out selling players for future draft picks, saying any potential trade would need to help the team this season.
Cowboys consider roster additions before NFL trade deadline
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones discussed the team’s approach to the NFL trade deadline, according to NFL insider Albert Breer. The Cowboys have lost three of their last four games, including defeats to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers, prompting Jones to seek advice from Bill Belichick.
The NFC East standings remain close. The New York Giants are 3-2-1, while the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are both 2-4. The Washington Commanders are 1-4-1, leaving all four teams separated by a narrow margin in the standings.
When asked whether Dallas could become a seller before the deadline, Jones ruled out that possibility. Jones said: “I’ll be real clear, I could see being active at the trade deadline if it was something that could help the team this year.”
Asked whether the Cowboys might sell players before the deadline, Jones answered, “No.”
The Cowboys have three games remaining before the November 10 deadline. Dallas will visit the Eagles, host the Arizona Cardinals and then travel to face the Indianapolis Colts.
The Cowboys have already made a move to improve their roster, acquiring Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in a trade. Dallas gave up a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to complete the deal, using future draft capital to strengthen the team for the current season.
Defense remains one area Dallas could address, particularly against the run. The team also needs greater defensive depth and has added veteran coach Mike Pettine to assist defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
Pass-rush help has been mentioned in trade speculation involving the Cowboys. The Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat and Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler have been connected to possible Cowboys trade discussions. However, these are potential options, not confirmed acquisitions.
Quarterback Dak Prescott has recorded 1,639 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions this season. He threw four interceptions in the Cowboys’ losses to Tampa Bay and Green Bay, with two in each game.
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has recorded 48 receptions for 577 yards and four touchdowns. George Pickens has 33 receptions for 428 yards and one touchdown, while running back Javonte Williams has recorded 317 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
The Cowboys will face the Eagles, Cardinals and Colts before the November 10 deadline as Dallas continues evaluating potential roster moves. Jones has ruled out selling players for future draft assets but remains open to moves that could strengthen the current roster.
