Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi has cautioned youths in the state against electoral violence and political thuggery, urging them not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence.
Mr Ododo gave the warning on Monday in Lokoja while receiving a delegation from Lokoja Ward A, led by Nda Aaron.
The governor said that no political ambition is worth the blood of the people, stressing that he would never encourage youths to take up arms for political purposes.
“If I ask you to come and collect guns to use for election, tell me to give them to my biological children,” Mr Ododo said.
He said young people must reject any inducement that could lead them to harm others in the name of elections.
The governor encouraged youths to believe in their potential, recalling his humble beginnings in a remote village and how he rose to become governor.
He urged the youths to draw inspiration from his journey and not let their backgrounds limit their ambitions.
Mr Ododo challenged them to develop confidence in their abilities and pursue opportunities that could transform their lives.
“What are we looking for that will make us kill our fellow human beings? How can you take the life of another person?” Mr Ododo queried.
He said young people should channel their energy into productive activities and constructive participation in the political process.
