The Union Home Ministry has designated Hatisar in Assam as a temporary authorised immigration post to facilitate entry for Bhutanese and third-country nationals attending Project 108 in Bhutan. The decision was announced on October 15, with the post set up specifically for the international gathering scheduled in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), located in Bhutan’s Sarpang district along the Assam border.
Project 108 is a significant cultural and spiritual event where 108 Jangchub Chortens (stupas) will be constructed simultaneously in a single day. The initiative is expected to draw monks, teachers, and visitors from across the globe, making it one of Bhutan’s most notable international events in recent years.
Officials confirmed that the temporary immigration post at Hatisar will streamline travel arrangements and ensure smooth movement of participants into Bhutan. The measure underscores India’s cooperation with Bhutan in supporting cross-border cultural and religious exchanges.
