Korean Chip Stocks Slide as Chinese Competition and AI Spending Fears Grow
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares extended their losses on October 13, falling more than 5% as investors reassessed the semiconductor industry outlook. Concerns about Chinese memory-chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) have intensified amid reports of memory-technology progress that could challenge established manufacturers. Comments from Broadcom CEO Hock Tan about the speculative nature of AI investments have also increased market uncertainty. The Kospi benchmark fell as much as 4.8% during the session, while US chipmaker Micron Technology had declined 3.9% in the preceding session. Malaysia Budget 2027 Raises Questions About Graduate Jobs Despite Higher Pay
Malaysia’s Budget 2027 has renewed debate about whether higher minimum wages will translate into meaningful employment opportunities for fresh graduates. The opinion article by Low Kah Choon and Chong Say Lee examines the tension between higher pay expectations and employers’ willingness to recruit entry-level workers as artificial intelligence expands. The concern is that salary increases alone cannot solve graduate unemployment, underemployment, or a mismatch between qualifications and available jobs. As businesses adopt AI tools and automate routine tasks, graduates may face greater competition for traditional entry-level roles. The debate highlights the importance of aligning education, workforce skills and business demand while ensuring that wage policies are supported by sufficient job creation.
Bitcoin Remains in Focus as Investors Track Cryptocurrency Market Signals
Bitcoin continues to attract investor attention as traders assess market momentum, liquidity and changing demand across the cryptocurrency sector. Price movements, exchange balances, and institutional investment flows remain key indicators of the direction of the world's largest cryptocurrency. However, treat short-term price predictions cautiously, as digital assets remain sensitive to macroeconomic developments, investor sentiment, and shifts in risk appetite. Traders are also monitoring technical support and resistance levels to gauge whether market conditions favor a recovery or further downside. Investors should distinguish between reported market data and speculative forecasts when assessing Bitcoin’s next move.
Anthropic Says New Claude Security Measures Cut Data Harvesting by Up to 99%
Anthropic says new security safeguards have reduced attempts to harvest data from its Claude AI models by approximately 90% to 99%. The measures are designed to limit model distillation, a technique developers use to train competing models on outputs from advanced AI systems. According to the company, the protections restrict attempts to extract internal reasoning, make automated data collection more difficult, and target suspicious activity through proxy networks. Anthropic also reported banning tens of thousands of accounts associated with suspected distillation campaigns. The company has raised concerns about unauthorized extraction of its models’ capabilities, including allegations involving Chinese AI startup Z.ai. The report's reported reductions are based on Anthropic’s own measurements and have not been independently verified. The development highlights the growing importance of protecting proprietary AI systems as competition between model developers intensifies.
