Women in Uttar Pradesh can call 1090 to report phone and online harassment. The process provides counselling, follow-ups and police referrals, while 112 handles emergencies.

The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Women Power Line 1090 provides a dedicated helpline for women facing harassment, including unwanted phone calls and abuse on digital platforms. Launched on November 15, 2012, the service allows women to register complaints and seek police intervention through a structured process involving counselling, follow-up and, where necessary, referral to the local police station.
The initiative is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen women’s safety mechanisms and make it easier for women to report harassment.
HOW DOES WOMEN POWER LINE 1090 WORK?
According to information published by the Uttar Pradesh Police, the helpline follows a complaint-resolution process that initially involves contacting the person accused of harassment and advising them to stop the behaviour.
If the harassment continues, further counselling may be undertaken, including involving the accused person’s family members, friends or relatives in an attempt to resolve the matter.
If the complaint remains unresolved, it may be referred to the concerned police station for further action.
The process also includes seeking feedback from complainants to assess whether their concerns have been addressed. According to the police’s published description, a further assessment is conducted 30 days after the last feedback. If the complainant indicates that the issue remains unresolved, the complaint-resolution process may be initiated again.
PART OF UP'S WOMEN AND CHILD SAFETY FRAMEWORK
Women Power Line 1090 operates under the Women and Child Security Organisation of the Uttar Pradesh Police, established on August 18, 2020, to address issues concerning the safety of women and children.
The organisation is part of the state police’s broader framework for tackling crimes against women and children. The dedicated helpline provides a channel for women to report harassment, including unwanted calls and abuse through digital platforms.
HOW TO SEEK POLICE ASSISTANCE
Women in Uttar Pradesh can call 1090 to report harassment through the Women Power Line. For emergencies requiring immediate police assistance, they can dial 112, the police emergency response number.
While 1090 provides a dedicated channel for reporting harassment and following up on complaints, 112 can be used when urgent police intervention is required.
