Families of 54 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police martyrs have received plot allotment letters at a ceremony in Peshawar. The authorities also announced an increase in the martyr compensation package and plans to bring police salaries in line with other provinces.
The families were invited to the Governor House during the first week of governor’s rule in the province. Officials paid tribute to the sacrifices of police personnel and assured the families of continued support.
The announced welfare measures include an increase in the martyr compensation package to Rs15 million. Officials also announced Rs1 million for the marriage of a martyred police officer’s daughter. Additional financial assistance for housing was also announced to help affected families meet their needs.
The ceremony also highlighted concerns about police salaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials said provincial police personnel had received lower salaries than their counterparts in other provinces for the past 13 years. They announced plans to bring their salaries to the same level as those elsewhere.
The event also included criticism of the previous provincial leadership over its handling of security matters. Officials referred to the response following the attack on Kohat Police Lines and the killing of Station House Officer Daud Khan and his gunman near Karak.
They also compared the time taken to convene Apex Committee meetings under previous and current administrations. Officials said the previous leadership took 112 days to call its first meeting. They added that the current governor’s administration convened an important Apex Committee meeting on its first day.
Authorities said maintaining law and order, improving police welfare and upholding the Constitution would remain priorities. They also stressed that provincial affairs should proceed through administrative measures and legal procedures rather than political confrontation.
